This weekend was a very busy weekend for me indeed. We went to Heia Safari Lodge in Muldersdrift for a team-building session early Friday morning. Was an amazing experience with zebra, giraffe and springbok roaming around us while we all tried to make the attempt at "bonding".
This fellow's name is "Big Boy". He's one of 4 adults. There was also a baby giraffe of 4 weeks old, but unfortunately wasn't able to catch a pic of him.
Some of the other residents of Heia Safari Lodge:
After our first "session" and lunch, we went on a game drive for an hour and a half where we were fortunate to see 4 of the "Big 5". What I didn't know is the reason for the name "Big 5" is that they are the 5 most dangerous animals when hunting. Unfortunately the only guy we were able to see was the Elephant due to it not being suitable surroundings for them.
After the awesome game drive we came back to the lodge where we enjoyed cocktails by the dam. This dam is the largest man-made dam in South Africa as the owner of the lodge built this wall on his own. It took him a total of 5 years building this dam wall one rock at a time.
When we were done with our cocktails and enjoying the scenery, we were taken back up to the main area of the lodge where we were told that we were going to have a potjiekos competition.... we all thought "ok, we can do this hands down". What we were not told until we started is that we weren't allowed to say a word to our team mates while we were making the potjie, yes this competition was done with a hole lot of sign language attempts, sighs, grunts and you can imagine what else. Extremely funny none-the-less.
While the food was now being maintained by the lodge chefs, we booked in to our rooms, came back to enjoy dinner and then some of us retired back to our rooms to call it a night after a long, exciting, fun filled day.
Day 2 wasn't as fun-packed as day 1, but we had a lovely breakfast, then another session, but this time only for the morning. After that was lunch and then packing the car to come home and then yet another all nighter for me as i was coming home to celebrate my Dad's 60th and cousin's 21st birthday that we have been organising for the last 3 weeks, but that is for the next chapter of my very busy, exciting weekend.
Hope you enjoyed reading this post and i must admit that i had no idea it was going to be such a lengthy post, but hey, this type of post only happens every 10th blue moon for me...
Thank you for looking and chat to you guys soon.
